Surge in Demand for Croatian Citizenship Among Argentinians

Croatia is experiencing a notable increase in demand for its citizenship, especially among Argentinians, driven by the allure of its strong passport and the benefits it offers, such as extensive work and travel freedoms. Schengen.News highlighted that in Zadar alone, a significant interest in acquiring Croatian nationality persists.

Despite the growing interest, the actual number of citizenship applications processed in Zadar last year was only 250, as reported by Dajana Mičić, head of the reception office at the State Archives in Zadar, to HRT. This number suggests that the approval process might be stringent or that only a few applications meet the criteria for success.

Argentinians Lead in Acquiring Croatian Citizenship Data from the Croatian Ministry of Interior shows a substantial number of citizenships granted to South Americans, particularly to Argentinians, from 2020 to August 2024. Over these four years, a total of 5,581 Argentinians received Croatian citizenship, making them the largest group from South America to do so. Other South American nations with significant numbers of new Croatian citizens include Chile with 2,615, Peru with 741, Bolivia with 733, and Brazil with 597. Additionally, there are 1,233 citizenship applications from South Americans currently being processed.

Croatia’s Passport: A Gateway to Global Mobility The strength of Croatia’s passport is a significant factor in the rising interest in its citizenship. Ranked 17th in the VisaGuide.World Passport Index, which evaluates the passports of 199 countries based on several criteria, Croatia’s passport has a score of 89.92%. It provides its holders visa-free access to 99 countries and requires visas for 22 others, showcasing its considerable global mobility power. This accessibility makes Croatian citizenship increasingly appealing to those looking to expand their travel and living options internationally.
